All-day dining @ NOOK, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, Malaysia

During our staycation at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, we had all our meals at NOOK, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant. The restaurant is modern with some interesting designs such as the white pods (higher seating), which are designed to replicate first class pods in a jet. The white pods have green carpets made out of horse hair, the most durable natural fiber in the world.

Above the buffet counter are original Moooi lightings, named Raimond designed by Raimond Puts. Raimond are perfect spheres of stainless ‘spring steel’ structure, punctuated with tiny LED lights, where there are no wiring on the lighting. Looking up at the lighting feels like staring into the soft glow of a starry night.

Breakfast buffet was included with our room, and the spread included Sarawak laksa, doughnuts, muesli, yogurts, roti canai, muffins, mee goreng, croissants and fresh fruits. For lunch and dinner, there is an a la carte menu available with a good selection of International and Asian cuisine. NOOK also offers a buffet for dinner, priced at RM78++ per person, but we opted for a la carte menu for our meals.

Apple + Sour Plum (RM12) - refreshing drink, love this

Kids usually have the fresh juices. Here's Baby D enjoying the pineapple juice

NOOK Twist - Ribena + soda (RM12)

Complimentary bread rolls

Here are some of the delicious dishes we tried throughout our stay.

From the Greens selection, we tried the Feta Cheese + Pear Salad (RM18). The salad is made up of arugula, lettuce, endive, cracked wheat, pear slices, feta cheese and maple walnut vinaigrette. A light and delicious salad.

"Baby C, can you please help mummy lift up the oxtail in the soup?" My daughter's a really brilliant assistant, and so cute too! :D The oxtail soup was good and warming, with lots of Malaysian spices, onion, potatoes, carrots and gelatinous chunks of oxtails.

My cute assistant

Both Baby C and I loved this funky chunky mushroom soup (RM18), served with garlic herb foccacia. The soup was thick and rich, with chunks of mushrooms in it.

Hubby was impressed with the Wagyu beef rendang he had from their MIGF menu, hence when he saw it on the menu, he immediately ordered it. This is one of their signature dishes; the beef rendang was tender and as good as the one we tried before, served with coconut rice, egg and condiments.

Another local signature dish that we tried was the nasi goreng (RM25), served with sea tiger prawn, fried chicken drumstick, somtam salad, and dry shrimp sambal. The rice was fragrant enough and portion was huge as well. Other popular local signature dishes at NOOK include sassy Sarawak laksa, nasi lemak and Hainanese chicken rice.

It's been a while since I had yee mee, so I ordered the Braised Sea Tiger Prawn Yee Mee Noodles (RM38). This hit the spot, as the noodles are how I like it - crispy when served with plenty of flavorful gravy, plus the prawns were huge and fresh.

Hubby was glad that I convinced him to order Peppered Black Angus Striploin steak, which is a bargain at RM50. Juicy, tender and nicely cooked. The steak was served with French beans, steak fries and creamy pepper sauce.

Nicely cooked

My favorite item from their whole menu has to be this - the Soy-Honey Glazed Cod Fish (RM35). The glaze was so yummy and complemented the cod fish well.  The flaky fish laid on top of a bed of sauteed mushrooms, kailan shoots and topped with crispy leeks. Kids ate almost all of this dish.

We also tried two signature items from their Western menu, the beef burger (RM25) and paper wrapped fish and chips (RM28). The burger patty was juicy, and the side salad was pretty healthy, with four types of seeds. Love the chunky fries.  The fish and chips was the kids order, we love the fish - crisp batter and moist flesh but didn't touch the accompanying sambal ikan bilis. Still prefer tartar sauce only with our fish and chips.

NOOK offers a children's menu here too, with five items ranging from RM6-RM9. Choose from Mac& Cheese, Hot Dog, Chicken Nugget, Spaghetti Tomato Basil Sauce, and Chocolate Muffin.

Chocolate muffin with buttercream (RM6)

Dessert menu is pretty small, so we only tried the white cheese cake (at w xyz bar) and the sago gula melaka (RM16). This is an interesting take on the popular Malaysian dessert - the sago is topped with salty coconut espuma and served with a pouring salted gula melaka and topped with jackfruit. Every spoonful was a delight to eat. Highly recommended.

Cute desserts from the buffet spread

  1. Wow!!! The oxtail soup looks so gorgeous. Ummmm...you live in KL, don't you? Why do you go staying in hotels so frequently? You get invited to write reviews or you're a member of something and you get free stays or they give you great discounts? Lucky you!

    1. Arthur, I sometimes get invited by hotels to review their rooms/restaurants. Usually I will bring my kids along to let them have a bit of fun and enjoy themselves too :)

  2. Oh my, the cod fish and steaks sure look good! And surprised to see that it's so affordable for a hotel restaurant.
